Beauty with roots

Umunyana begins in the volcanic highlands of Rwanda, on farms worked by women, in a craft passed down by women. We buy directly from them, and we pay them well for it. That is the first and most concrete thing this company does.

Fair terms, directly

Most Rwandan coffee has historically been grown for export, controlled from elsewhere, with the smallest share going to the people who grew it. We work directly with women farmers, on fair terms, so the value of the harvest returns to the hands that produced it.

Beyond the cup

Our founder, Dydine Umunyana Anderson, also leads Kind Kulture, a nonprofit working with survivors, displaced communities, and young people through storytelling and humanitarian aid. Umunyana Coffee supports that mission and shares its values. The two remain separate organizations.
